How To Use @home Spam Settings

Scenarios

I want to prevent spam mails from filling up my mailbox
I want to isolate spam from my personal emails

Background

Managing spam or junk emails has become an important element of maintaining an email account. @home provides advanced functionality to prevent spam mails from cluttering or filling up your mailbox. There are three different configuration settings that can be used: a spam filtering level; spam handling; and spam folder cleanup.

Spam filtering levels - these determine the sensitivity levels of your account to spam. They range from the very sensitive where only mails from addresses identified by you (i.e. on your safe list) are accepted, to the less sensitive option which catches only obvious spam.

Spam handling - once mail has been identified as spam you need to decide how this mail should be treated. This is done using the spam handling setting. Options include: deliver to the spam folder; delete; deliver to an alternative address; identify the mail as spam using an identifier in the subject line; or take no action.

Spam folder cleanup - the last setting is used only where you have specified that spam should be delivered to the spam folder. It is used to configure the conditions under which emails in your spam folder should be deleted.

Solution

  1. Log into your email account from a web browser.
  2. Select Account Options and then Spam Filtering Preferences.
  3. In the first section you need to decide the filtering levels that you wish to apply. If you opt for Exclusive access you will need to also maintain a list of email addresses or domain names in the Spam Filtering Safe List.
  4. Next decide how you want to handle mail that has been identified as spam. The most common option is to deliver to the spam folder. You can then review it from there before deleting.
  5. The last option is only applicable if you have requested all spam to be sent to the spam folder. Decide if you want all mail to be deleted automatically after a certain period of time or after a certain number of mails has accumulated. Alternatively you may decide not to apply automatic deletion so that you can manually delete as and when you feel it is necessary.
  6. Once you have entered each of the necessary settings click on Save Changes. The settings will automatically be applied.
