Problem: Large Phone Bills

I am generating large phone bills using a dial up connection to access my email.

Scenario

I tend to use the same computer to access email
I use dial up to access email and want to limit the amount of time spent online
I am currently using webmail, i.e. accessing my email via a web browser rather than through an email client such as Outlook
I tend to exceed the storage limitations of my email account and would like to store emails on my hard drive

Recommended Solution

Use Outlook

If one or more of the above applies to you then you may wish to make use of an email client such as Outlook or Eudora. These programs allow you to organise and manage your emails, even when you are not connected to the Internet. They do this by periodically copying your email from the webmail server and storing it locally on your computer. Please see How To Set Up Outlook

Use Broadband

It may also be worthwhile for you to investigate using Broadband as an alternative to dial up, as you may find that this saves you money.

Benefits

The benefits of using Outlook are:
Cheaper phone bills since less time spent connected to the Internet
Enables viewing and drafting of emails while not connected to the Internet
Local storage of emails means less likelihood of exceeding size limitations of mailbox
Enables utilisation of other features (e.g. Calendar)
